Youth Pottery Wheel Throwing Clay (ages 8-15); 4-week Class! Jan 5 - 26

  • Pudgy's Place 119R Foster Street Peabody, MA, 01960 United States (map)

You asked, and we listened—introducing Youth Classes at Pudgy's Place! :) This first four-week session is focused on wheel-throwing pottery (using the spinning wheel).

Here is a rough outline of the weekly schedule and goals (please see the agenda section of this Eventbrite page by clicking the sign up link below for a full breakdown and details of each week):

  • Introductions and a guided step-by-step lesson on bowls

  • Refresher and a guided step-by-step lesson on cups

  • Examples and a guided step-by-step trimming lesson (carving the bottom of pots)

  • The last class is glazing (painting the pottery)

Our beginner's pottery class is specially designed to teach your young ones the basics of wheel throwing. We will cover proper posture, breathing techniques, motor functions, form, and - of course - how to make safe functional pieces (mugs, cups, bowls, and plates)! Our goal in this class is to give you the best possible clay education while keeping the class and atmosphere fun and inviting. Specifically, they'll learn how to center clay via coning up and down, opening the form, pulling the walls of the pot, trimming (carving and finishing the bottoms), and finally glazing them (the top colorful coat). This 4-week course will meet every Sunday beginning January 5th from 10 - 11:30 am with the final class being held on January 26th. There is one make-up session per person per class if you are sick or life gets in the way. Please email us if you need to reschedule and we will coordinate with you! :)

Parents are welcome to stay the whole time or drop off their kids and pick them up after the session. Please note parents MUST pick their children up after class as other adult classes follow. We are offering a 4-week YOUTH hand-building clay class in February and a Drawing 101 class in March—all for ages 8-15!

Note: Shahane will be the instructor! She has taught pottery since 2016, got her BFA in ceramic arts in 2015 with a double minor in art history and psychology, and owns Pudgy's Place with her husband Phillip :)
